Cap-aux-Meules, August 17, 2023<\/strong> – In a innovative move towards environmental responsibility, NSI, a leading business and digital transformation consulting firm, is proud to announce its achievement of becoming the first business to obtain the Shoreline Protector Certification. This certification is part of NSI’s ongoing commitment to creating a positive impact on the environment and the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For several years, NSI has been at the forefront of sustainable practices, focusing on fostering change in the business community. This dedication to sustainability culminates in NSI’s recent partnership with Alliance Myrique, an initiative that aims to combat shoreline erosion on the Magdalen Islands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coastal erosion is a global issue threatening the very existence of some ecosystems. The 12,000 measurements collected since 2005 by the Laboratoire de dynamique et de gestion int\u00e9gr\u00e9e des zones c\u00f4ti\u00e8res de l’Universit\u00e9 du Qu\u00e9bec \u00e0 Rimouski (UQAR) show that the shores of the the Magdalen Islands have retreated nearly 8.5 metres since 2005, due to erosion. This alarming trend prompted NSI to take action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alliance Myrique offers a natural solution to shoreline erosion, harnessing the power of the Myrica Gale (Myrique des \u00celes), a native plant known for its remarkable environmental properties such as soil stabilization. Through this initiative, Quebec businesses can now actively participate in shoreline preservation by becoming part of the Shoreline Protectors. For an annual fee, Alliance Myrique cultivates these crucial plants and provides them to government partners for planting in identified areas. Jean Hubert, Director of Infrastructure and the Project Office for the Municipality of \u00celes-de-la-Madeleine, applauds this initiative: “At a time when climate change, erosion and flooding are forcing our community to innovate and adapt, the municipality welcomes the initiative of this local company. We are pleased to be a partner in this project by making available municipal land near the Cap-aux-Meules recharging station, which will enable us to plant Myrique des \u00celes, and thus study how the plant behaves in a rocky cliff context and document its potential for mitigating the effects of coastal erosion.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n

To commemorate the launch of this initiative, a press event was held on August 17th 2023 in Cap-aux-Meules. The event featured co-founders Yves LeBlanc and Alexis LeBlanc, who provided insights into this promising solution. Yves Laurent Turcotte, President of NSI, was also there with a part of his team to plant the first of 186 trees.Yves Laurent emphasized the importance of this endeavor: “As we searched for opportunities to contribute to environmental conservation, we realized that some regions in Quebec, like the Magdalen Islands, were particularly vulnerable, especially after the recent challenges like Fiona. NSI is proud to take the lead in adopting sustainable practices that protect our precious shorelines.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
